Migration to Australia for skilled workers in high demand

People assessed as suitable for employment in occupations on the MODL are eligible for an extra 15 points on the skilled migration points test, providing they have been employed in that occupation, or a closely related one, for a total of 12 months in the 48 months immediately before lodging their visa application. Applications who also have an offer of full-time employment in that occupation from an organisation that had at least 10 full-time employees at all times in the 24 months immediately before the visa application are eligible for a further 5 points.

The extra points awarded for having an occupation on the MODL means that an applicant can be up to 44 years old at the time of application and still get enough points to migrate, without needing a local Australian sponsor.

Applicants still need to satisfy minimum English language criteria as well as health and character requirements, and must have worked in an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List for a period of time (depending on the occupation) immediately before lodging the visa application.

Relevant Assessing Authorities

Whether you got your qualifications in Australia or overseas, you must submit them for assessment by the "Relevant Assessing Authority" listed on the Skilled Occupations List for your occupation. Each authority has its own fees, application procedures and criteria.

It is essential that you have your occupation assessed by the relevant authority BEFORE you lodge your visa application. Applications lodged without an assessment will be treated as invalid.
